I’m feeling my couponing is at a lull and I’m getting good deals, but there are items on my want list, that I just don’t have coupons for. And 9 times out of 10, if I don’t have a coupon and it’s not a sale, I’m not buying it. And I wait.
And wait.
For a coupon to be in the paper.
It just isn’t happening. So I took matters into my own hands and I wrote Brooks Beans (which is owned by Pinnacle Foods) and told them how these are the beans we love in our chili and could they send a coupon. And they did. I got 1 coupon for .25 off. Which worked great this week as the beans were on sale, so I got a discount on the beans for the next time we make chili.
1. Take a pen and paper and go to your pantry.
2. Write down all the brands/manufacturers you have in your food pantry, your bathroom cleans, laundry and wherever else you have different products.
3. Take this list and go to your computer and look the companies up. (search for them if necessary).
4. Look for coupons on their website to print.
5. If there are no coupons on their website, find the contact page and send them a note. Give a compliment on how you like or use their products, and request they send you a coupon. Make sure to INCLUDE YOUR ADDRESS in your response, so they don’t have to ask you. It just makes the process easier.
6. Wait for your coupons to arrive.
You’ll be able to apply the coupons to sales to get great deals on food that you used. Manufacturers often give great coupons, that have longer expiration dates.
So go give some love to the manufacturers you love and wait for the coupons to roll in.

That’s great Pamela! Sometimes they offer better coupons than you can buy in the paper or print online, which increases your savings even more!
Wow, this is great! It never even occurred to me to do this. Thanks!

Glad you learned a new trick today Jenn!
What a fantastic idea! I never thought of that. I’ve gone to coupon websites and printed out things I didn’t catch in the Sunday mailer, but I’ve never thought of approaching the companies I’d like coupons for. Especially for the things we love and use a ton! Thanks for the tip!

You are welcome Gina. Keep a list of who gives you coupons and who doesn’t. I had a company tell me once to check the local paper for coupons. I replied, nicely, thank you. Once I find a coupon in the paper, I would be happy to purchase your product. They did send me a coupon and since then, I see a ton more coupons for their product….and I HAVE bought more of it because of that.

We stopped getting the Sunday paper because all we did was clip coupons and toss the paper. I felt guilty wasting “trees.” I’ve done some of the things you suggest, and I particularly like getting Kellogg’s cereal coupons by email every week or so.

I understanding what you are saying. Some weeks, coupons are not that great.
Thank you for letting me know about this!
You are welcome Amber!
Great tip!! I’ve tried it before. It works sometimes. I do look online for organic companies and have found several coupons for organic stuff that way!

I completely agree with your post! Writing companies praising their products (and sometimes not praising) is the best way to get your voice heard; plus, you can get coupons for the items that you love! Great post! P.S. I love this font you have for the text box for comments – Super cute!

Thanks Melanie. Yes, I have written companies about bad experiences (nicely) and received coupons as well. Thanks for pointing that out.
