I saw this posted in Pinterest somewhere, where you could make butterflies with your kids feet. There were no instructions. I’m not the best doing things on my own by I tried.
What you will need:
- Canvas
- paint brush to spread on the paint
- Paint colors (2-3, plus a color for the body)
- Baby wipes/wash cloth to clean the foot afterwards
You will need to work somewhat fast as the paint seems to dry fast on the foot and it doesn’t give a good print if it’s dried (go figure).
Paint the toes and even the indent of the foot, it won’t show much, but will add some color.

Place the painted foot down the opposite side of the canvas (right on the left, left on the right. Push the toes down to get a good impression. If they don’t, that’s ok, you can fix it up a bit.
Add the body of the butterfly (we used black and tiny blue and green dots on the body). You will also notice that I went back in and defined the toes a little better on the feet on the pink. Did some subtle definitions, not totally defining it. My daughter was not happy at how her toes turned out.Let them dry and then add their names and ages on the bottom in permanent marker or on the back. Hang and enjoy!

They’re so cute! With little kids feet, these would make adorable grandparent gifts or cards!

It would be great for cards too, if your kids feet will fit on a card. My kids wear Size 12 and 2 shoes (they are 7 1/2 and 5), so we would need big cards.
Maybe their hands would fit on cards. I have something in mind for hands project for them too.
I think I should try this very cute specially to the babies feet…Its a good idea for the birthday card you can put the print in the front…
Those would be great. Baby feet are just too cute!
What a cool project! I love this… must try it with my little girl… my little artist.
Thanks so much for sharing!

THIS is a fabulous idea…. Creative, fun, and a little messy which makes it even more fun. I love the idea of keeping them and remembering when their little footprints were that little!

I tried my best to contain the mess with a container of baby wipes to wipe their feet immediately after we were done.
The hardest part is keeping the paint wet while ypu paint the rest of the foot.
Very cute! I love footprint and handprint art! We’ll have to try one this year to document their hand and/or foot sizes!
