This is the last post of a three part series on my Pure Michigan Michigan Ag Council Blogger tour:
Pure Michigan – Dairy Farm Tour Pure Michigan – Milk Processing Plant Pure Michigan – Kroger Store TourThe third destination on the Michigan Ag Council Blogger tour took us to Kroger in Northville. We were greated by Dale from Kroger who took us on a tour of the store and then we were served a lunch made with purely Michigan made foods.
I’m sure the people shopping wondered what was up with 3 tables set up in the middle of the produce area and all of us eating in the store, but it was a great meal and Dale Hollandsworth from Kroger Consumer Communications gave us a lot of information about Kroger and the care they take in promoting Michigan.
We learned that if every Michigan family spent $10 a week buying Michigan products, we could put $40 million weekly into the Michigan economy. Wow!
Kroger is proud to have several Michigan made products in their stores. There are a total of over 1600 items that they carry (varies by location) with the Michigan Made Product sticker.
Kroger contacted their suppliers to find out if their products were made in Michigan before they gave them the sticker too.
There are companies that do use Michigan products, but not may use other states products. Those products are not marked Michigan Made Products, because the companies could not guarantee which bag, boxes, cans carried Michigan products.
If you look up in the produce section, you might see signs of farmers. Those are Michigan farmers who provide food for the Kroger stores. A few of the ladies in the group I was in, knew some of the farmers.
I left the tour feeling proud knowing how much Kroger was promoting Michigan made products and making it easier for us to identify the Michigan made products when shopping so that I could share with you how you can help your community as well.
We are all empowered and I truly believe sharing this information can make a difference if we all buy local to our communities and support each other.
