Walgreens allows you to stack their store coupons in their weekly ad and in the monthly booklet (found next to the ads in the store) with manufacturer coupons.
When you had the coupons to the cashier, hand them the manufacturer coupons, then the store coupons, then the register rewards. This is most important when doing BOGO coupons, but getting in the habit to do this at Walgreens is just easier.
By doing this with your coupons, the full price of the free item will be deducted from your total. Had you handed the store coupon to the cashier first, the free item would have been discounted, less money off your order. So say it with me. Manufactured coupon, store coupon, register rewards!
Doing multiple transactions is not something that I do often. I always feel rushed.
To keep from that feeling, I recommend checking out at the cosmetic counter.
It’s less stress and you are able to take the register rewards from your first transaction and apply them to your second transaction. Keep in mind if you are buying the same items in the second transaction, you will not receive the register rewards if you use the rewards from the first transaction.
Example Transaction #1: If you buy Colgate toothbrush and receive $2 register reward.
Transaction #2: Colgate toothbrush. Use $2 register reward from transaction 1, you will not receive a register reward.
It would be best to use those registers on a transaction you are not buying a Colgate toothbrush.
Register rewards are like a store incentive and they are spent like manufacturer coupons. Walgreens is unique in that each manufacturers coupons (or register rewards to redeem) you have, you must have the same amount of items for.
So if you are using 8 coupons and 2 register rewards, you will need to have 10 items. To help balance things out, you may need to purchase a ‘filler’ item, which would allow you to use your 10 coupons. Filler items should be inexpensive items like a pencil, file, piece of candy and definitely check out the clearance items to pick up something cheap.
Understanding how to shop Walgreens, will make your shopping experience less stressful. Make sure to read their coupon policy as well and have a copy with you should you run into problems.
